An armed robbery that occurred early Monday is currently being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The robbery, which is Howard-related according to Howard police, is the latest in a string of recent crimes near Howard’s main campus.

An MPD report claims an estimated $760 worth of items were stolen, including an iPhone, wallet, bookbag, three tennis rackets, tennis shoes and an AirPods case. Among these possessions, the tennis rackets and tennis shoes were later recovered near the scene, the report says.

In the report, the MPD recorded that the incident occurred between 5:08-5:15 a.m. at Banneker Community Center.

The DPS Crime alert said there were three suspects. One of them brandished a handgun at the individual who was robbed of their possessions. After this encounter, DPS reported that the suspects fled down Georgia Avenue and southbound onto Howard Street.

Beginning on Jan. 16 numerous crimes have been committed on and near Howard’s campus including two armed robberies and a shooting.
