IT’S TIME!

Howard University (HU) Alumni call upon HU to appoint its 1st Black woman as
president when Wayne A. I. Frederick retires in 2024. HU has had 17 Presidents,
ALL MALE. It’s far past time to give a Black woman president the opportunity to lead
this great MECCA back to REAL truth and service. For nearly a quarter of a century,
under the leadership of its last three Presidents from the mid-1990s to 2022, HU
has been mired in turmoil with repeated protests, building takeovers, votes of no
confidence and abrupt leadership departures, where too often its leaders ignored
the cries and concerns of its students, its faculty, its staff, and now its nurses and
staff at HU Hospital! A range of repeated concerns include deplorable student
housing conditions, financial aid problems, faculty tenure and salary issues,
questionable financial management, and especially, the elimination of student,
faculty and alumni trustee positions. We need a leader who can communicate and
relate to students, to faculty, and to staff with a clear understanding of their concerns
whenever they arise and fully respect their roles and contributions to the University.
Given HU’s rich history in civil rights and in its development of countless students
into strong leaders in all aspects of our society, NOW MORE THAN EVER, we need
a stable and strong Howard University in these especially racially challenging and
turbulent times! There is and has always been a tremendous list of extraordinary
Black women candidates prepared and willing to carry the Torch!
