Dear readers,
Some of you may have noticed that our website, thehilltoponline.com, is displaying error codes. When trying to access the website, you may see “resource limit reached” or “temporarily unavailable.” The Hilltop’s business team and I have been working to resolve this issue over the past week. A representative from our website’s hosting company, InMotion, found that the website was compromised, likely due to hacking. At the same time, the website is shutting down because it can not handle the amount of traffic and resources being used. He was able to temporarily restore the site from a backup from fall of 2024. This means that if you are able to access the site currently, you may see old stories.
Currently, the folks at InMotion recommended several next steps to prevent this from happening again and restore all content to the website. We are seeking additional consultation to make sure we make the choice that is the quickest and best for full, continued operation. All of The Hilltop’s content from 2025 and 2026 is saved, so it is not completely lost. If we are unable to find a more recent backup, we will work to return that content to the website.
In the meantime, we will continue to post on social media, and if you are on campus, we encourage you to pick up one of our Homecoming print editions and read it. Feel free to email me at eic1@thehilltoponline.com if you have further questions or concerns.
In Truth and Service,
