Howard University Women’s Lacrosse Team Has Six Selections to the IWLCA Academic Honors

The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced that the Howard women’s lacrosse team was selected for the 2022 Academic Honor Squad. In order to qualify, teams must collectively earn at least a 3.2 GPA for the 2021-22 school year. The Honor Squad recognizes institutions across Divisions I, II, and III, as well as those within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Howard University was one of 400 schools represented in this affair.

The Bison also sported six players that made the IWLCA Division I Honor Roll: graduate attacker Kaila Abrams, junior attacker Talia Coryat, senior goalkeeper Andrea Fievre, junior defender Skylar Jennings, junior defender Madison Joines, and junior midfielder Rania Jones. This roll commends upperclassmen that have excelled in their academic studies. All six of the Bison on the Honor Roll boasted a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The accomplishments by these women shine a bright light on a gloomy season for the Howard lacrosse team last year. The team finished with a league-worst 1-16 record, posting a winless record against Division I opponents. It was Howard’s first full season since 2019, and first season under head coach Karen Healy-Silcott. With a season of experience together back on the field, the lacrosse team should be looking towards a successful season.

This year, The Hilltop’s Sports Section mission is to continue to further highlight the many successes of Howard’s women’s sports teams on the field. However, as evidenced by Howard Lacrosse, there is even more success to celebrate off the field.
