Telfar Clemens revealed new apparel to the world, Telfar Track, on Feb. 9 via the brand’s Instagram. With a previous series that included t-shirts, hoodies and sweats, the fashion house added a signature track jacket, pant, thigh-hole pant, short and capri to the collection.
Fans of the brand have long speculated the release of a track collection following its first-time appearance at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. The line of athletic wear was inspired by and made in the honor of Liberia, giving recognition to Clemens’ Liberian background. To many fans, the latest release did not come as a surprise.
“We’ve definitely been waiting for something like this from Telfar since he designed the uniforms for the Liberian olympic team,” said Nylah Lee, a junior journalism major and follower of the brand. “It looks comfortable and practical, which is saying a lot in the era of athleisure, which usually looks cute but lacks function when it comes to actually working out or jogging.”
Telfar fans filled the announcement post with praises following the release, sky-rocketing the post to a running total of more than 94,500 views, 250 comments and 9,400 likes.
Among the support, fans have also shown slight distaste for the current price point, as well as a desire for more variety and color from the line.
“It’s a little beyond my price point for a track suit at the moment, but my favorite piece is the thigh-hole track pants,” Lee shared. I hope he drops more colors in the future. I would like to see this in white or even something more colorful than pink.”
Joshua Jackson, a junior television and film major and follower of the brand echoes Lee’s sentiments.
“I think the latest Telfar track drop was a tad bit lackluster,” Jackson said. I liked the pieces but I feel like for such a small collection, there were no amazing pieces that really stood out like similar drops from the brand. I would have loved to see more color and variety with the drop in terms of pieces.”
Overall, fans still feel that the Telfar brand represents a pillar of Black excellence and authenticity within the fashion world.
“They make it very clear that Black people are the muse,” Lee said. “You can tell by their socials that Black people have made Telfar what it is today and they have no plans to dilute that message.
“Throughout its rise to popularity, Telfar has stayed true to the whole idea of affordable and accessible luxury for everyone,” Jackson said. The brand has not had any major price increases or decreases in quality since its initial launch and that’s what I love most about the brand. I believe Telfar will continue to strive and prosper because it stays true to said principles and I am excited to see where the brand goes.”
