The Hilltop, Nation’s Oldest Black Collegiate Newspaper Celebrates 100 Years

The start of Black History Month also marked an important milestone at Howard University. The Hilltop, known as the Student Voice at Howard University celebrated its centennial, as the oldest Black collegiate newspaper. The celebration culminated with a gala at the National Press Club. The event, which brought hundreds of alumni and supporters from across the country, featured keynote speaker– noted author, Pulitzer Prize-winning-journalist, and alumna, Isabel Wilkerson. Fighting the Good Fight: Hilltop Editors Share Reflections During Centennial Fireside Chat

As a part of the Hilltop’s Centennial Weekend Celebration, the publication hosted a fireside chat with past Editors. The panelist dated back from the 60s to present day. The conversation consisted of stories of late nights in The Hilltop Office along with infamous Howard University Protests. This event was one of many celebrating the historical 100th Anniversary of The Hilltop, the country’s oldest Black collegiate newspaper. NewsVison’s Amya Henry reports.
