The 2022 Homecoming fashion show, which takes place on Thursday, Oct. 20 in Cramton Auditorium, is once again fast approaching.

Although the theme of this year’s fashion show is known to be titled “MEC Gala,” Cambridge Dantzler, the executive coordinator for this year’s Homecoming fashion show, encourages students and alumni to “expect the unexpected.”

Dantzler, senior strategic legal management communications major, hosted a model call in Cramton Auditorium in search of the 2022 Homecoming runway lineup. “Confidence, technique, and personality” is what it takes to impress the judges, according to Dantzler.

“We’re looking for confidence, some experience and [we welcome] all shapes and sizes,” Dantzler said. “A panel of model coaches will be working with the models to assist them with techniques, facial expressions, confidence and their own personal flair is a great asset.”

Three days after the model call was sent out across social media, dozens of students headed to the auditorium dressed in white tops and black denim bottoms, collected their call numbers and waited in line to show a panel of model coaches how they strut their New York and Howard walk styles.

In groups of two, the auditionees walked across the catwalk to songs such as ASAP Rocky’s “Fashion Killa” and Tweet’s 2002 hit “Oop’s (Oh My).” If confidence is what is required to make the cut, senior public relations major and model auditionee Tyler Anthony is up for the role.

“This model call was exactly the type of thrill that I needed to push me to have the confidence that I needed,” Anthony said shortly after leaving the stage. “There’s no growth without change and change brings discomfort, so I felt confident in my walk and I am happy to be here.”

As for the theme of the show, Anthony anticipates an enjoyable experience. “I fully believe and trust that the creative direction team will blow it out of the water,” Anthony said. “I’m surprised every time, that’s my favorite part about not knowing everything beforehand.”

Designers for this year’s show have yet to be announced, however, famous designers such as Walker Ware and Timberland have made appearances in the past. Senior film major and model auditionee Ann-Corynn Riviere, however, is anticipating designs from a fellow Bison.

“I am such a big fan of Insignia MSA,” Riviere said. “I think her designs are so cool it looks so futuristic. Hopefully, she will be in the fashion show. [The] theme of Homecoming is [The] Meccaverse. I feel like there may be a lot of futuristic influence, especially in the designs of the fashion show, so, I think I’d want to see that.”

The Homecoming events begin on Oct. 15 and will include current students and alumni in-person for the first time since 2019.
