LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

From the Editor: In the Heights with Hearst

In this season of gratitude and thankfulness I find it most fitting to extend The Hilltop’s sincerest appreciation for Hearst Communications.

In this season of gratitude and thankfulness I find it most fitting to extend The Hilltop’s sincerest appreciation for Hearst Communications. Over the past two years, a small team of dedicated individuals have helped us modernize and monetize our publication in the digital realm.

One of the greatest gifts being a new platform and layout for our website. We have shifted from a WordPress account to a site with coding and embedding specifically catered to our individual needs. This year we added three new beats to our coverage: District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia (DMV), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Alumni news, they are all featured throughout the web page.

We also now have an easy to read header and footer menu which include information on our current staff, opportunities for advertising and donating. In addition to details on how to send in news tips or submit a letter to the editor.

It is with great pride that we display our notable achievement as the nation’s oldest Black collegiate newspaper at the top of our page. It serves as a reminder of the collective accomplishments of Howard University students with humble beginnings and hope for a steadfast continuation of such success.

Through technical business training in audience development, analytics and search engine optimization to rebranding our media kit or helping us distribute content through Apple News, the Hearst Communications team has established our digital footprint for decades to come.

Our entire team would like to send a huge thank you to Bridget Williams, Chris Preovolos, Sam Guzik, David Santos, Michael Villasenor, Nyasha Bass, Ted Metzger, Amel Afzal, Levi Sheppard and Sean Sabino. Your hard work and patience does not go unnoticed. These immeasurable contributions will help secure the future for the next generation of the world’s most tenacious journalists and young professionals. For that, we appreciate your commitment to excellence without excuse and providing a space for the public to receive “Good News.”
