Art exhibits. Movie screenings. Black-owned restaurants. These are just a few of the many excursions that the DMV offers this November. We’ve put together a list of eight different events happening this month that you and your friends might appreciate.

  1. DMV Black Restaurant Week 

From November 7-14, you can taste a multitude of foods from Black-owned restaurants around Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia during Black Restaurant Week. There’s opportunities to try lots of different cuisines at discounted prices from partners, chegs, and entrepreneurs. By participating in Black Restaurant Week, you are supporting the multitude of Black business owners. You can check the website to find more information on what restaurants to visit.

  1. Unveiling of Smithsonian’s Futures Exhibit 

The Smithsonian presents their newest exhibit on November 20. Take a trip ride to the future and experience what a Smithsonian museum might look like in the year 2071. With plenty of interactive models that allow you to see into the future, air taxis, and futuristic, contemporary art models! It’s all here!

  1. Tobe Nwigwe Concert

If you love afro-beats, you’ll love to watch rising artist Tobe Nwigwe take over the stage. With his character style and African roots that take charge and bring life to his music. He will be performing at The Fillmore Silver Spring in Silver Spring, Maryland on November 7.

  1. David Driskell: Icons of Nature and History

For the visual art lovers at Howard, you can view the artwork of Howard Alumni, David Driskell at his exhibition. His art depicts different variations of beauty and structure throughout the African diaspora using an abstract style. The exhibition takes place from October 16, 2021 to January 9, 2022 at 1600 21 St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20009.

  1. NoMa: Movie Nights Under the Stars

Movie lovers, friends, couples, come and enjoy a night under the stars with NoMa. NoMa’s Outdoor Movie Series: Cinematic takes place every Tuesday night until November 10 at 227 Harry Thomas Way NE, Washington, D.C. 20002. Movie screenings include films like Moana, Crazy Rich Asians, Coco and more.  Find out more here.

  1. Downtown Holiday Market 

The 17th annual Downtown DC Holiday Market will take place from November 17 to December 23. The market will last from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m each day. Enjoy a traverse market of tents from Black-owned businesses and small POC business owners. Food vendors will be in attendance, and admittance is completely free.

  1. Brookside Garden of Lights

Come and witness a winter wonderland, presented by Brookside! On November 19, you can experience magic come to life with more than 50 acres of twinkling, sparkling lights for the holiday. Bring your friends, family and loved ones to walk through the Garden of Lights. Dress warm — the lights will stay on rain or shine!

  1. Live Music Performances in Downtown D.C.

Music lovers, come experience live outdoor music at Franklin Park! Each Thursday from October 14 to November 18, rising and local musicians perform various genres of music each week. This Thursday, November 4, pack a snack, a blanket and dress warmly to enjoy music in downtown D.C!
