Dear Bison Family,
We are so excited to be joining the University in welcoming all First-Time in College Students to
campus and cannot wait to be reunited with our returning students!
My name is Kylie Burke, I am a senior honors Political Science major from the Bay Area of
California, and I proudly serve as the 61st President of the Howard University Student
Association. Co-writing this list is HUSA Vice President Alana Thomas, a senior Strategic, Legal
& Management Communications major from Boynton Beach, Florida. Together, we serve as the
Howard University Student Association’s (HUSA) 61st Administration, which is the third
administration to be led by two Howard women since HUSA’s inception in 1961.
HUSA 61 has a comprehensive strategic advocacy plan to ensure Bison return to a campus
community that has learned and improved since the campus closure in March of last year. Our
overall goals from the “On The Run” (O.T.R) Platform focus on the following:
O Optimizing Student Government to improve functionality and a more digitized
approach to engagement.
T Transitioning Back to Campus with a safer, more inclusive community prepared
to support the unique needs of current students while also preserving the legacy and
history of Howard culture.
R Restoring Stakeholder Power increasing the opportunities Howard students
have to participate in meaningfulstudent leadership opportunities at all levels of
the University and creating avenuesthat make it easierforstudent voicesto be
represented/heard.
I look forward to fulfilling each pillar of the platform with the support of our incredibly talented
HUSA Executive Team and Cabinet composed of various student leaders including our Chief of
Staff, Laten Jordan who will be helping the “Advocacy All Around Coalition” establish a
partnership across student government, including HUSA Executive, Senate, and the respective
student advocacy departments for undergraduate councils.
The rest of the HUSA team is composed of six distinguished departments, each led by a student
Cabinet Director. We’ve listed these departments below and encourage new studentsto consider
applying to join HUSA 61 as a “First-Year Associate” this Fall.
