Heads bopped and hips swayed as fellow Bison gathered at Greene Stadium for Bison Night Lights to meet and cheer on the fall sports teams for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The first team introduced was the women’s volleyball team. Proudly, it was mentioned that the team carried all the way to the MEAC final tournament last season, ultimately winning the MEAC championship for the 2021-2022 academic year. After winning six of the last seven MEAC championships, the Bison family is without a doubt looking forward to their success this season, which began on August 26, 2022.

The next team introduced was the men’s football team. The men have an action-packed season ahead of them, starting with the MEAC/SWAC Challenge in Atlanta, Georgia, against Alabama State University that was on Saturday, August 27, 2022. The HBCU NYC Football Classic follows this against Morehouse College in September, and the “Truth and Service” Classic against Harvard University in October. Therefore, the men’s team has high expectations to meet, and hopes to use last year’s experiences as a learning opportunity to exceed their past performances. The team returns with many key players, including a handful of underclassmen, and a few fresh faces, in hopes of expanding their depth on the field.

The men’s football team was followed by the men’s and women’s soccer teams. The women’s team, who began their season earlier this month, welcomed many new talents. There were 10 new additions to the roster, and many of them were transfers from different conferences. The team won their second game of the season against Elon University (1-0) and earned a draw against George Mason (3-3). The Bison hope to secure their fourth consecutive winning season, after finishing (6-5-3) the previous year. The men’s team finished (3-10-3) in the last season. The first game of the season, on August 25, 2022, was against Marist College. Their roster consists of many returning players, as well as first-year players coming from local schools.

Cross country then introduced their men’s and women’s teams. The team looks to have a competitive yet successful season which begins September 2, 2022, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Wesley Stephens will lead the Bison into their most challenging season under his first year of head coaching tenure.

Last but certainly not least were the men’s and women’s golf teams. The Howard University men’s golf 2021-2022 season closed with the team placing third in the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) golf championship. Out of the four teams, the Bison finished third and finished second in the first round. The Howard University women’s golf team placed fifth overall. Both teams are looking to go far this season.

The Bison family is looking forward to seeing and rallying in support of all of the fall sports teams this coming year.
