Mr. and Miss Howard University, Grant Robertson and Kyla Cole, hosted an early screening and panel for the movie, “21 Bridges” starring Howard alumnus Chadwick Boseman on Wednesday, Nov. 18..
“21 Bridges” is a 2019 crime thriller focused on Boseman’s character, Andre Davis, uncovering a massive conspiracy, and joining a citywide manhunt for two young cop killers. As the night unfolds, he soon becomes unsure of who to pursue — and who’s in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, authorities decide to take extreme measures by closing all of Manhattan’s 21 bridges to prevent the suspects from escaping.
The screening took place in Cramton Auditorium with over five hundred Howard Students thrilled to not only see the film but to hear from Howard Alumni, Chadwick Boseman and Logan Coles, “21 Bridges” producer. While watching the movie the auditorium was filled with gasps and commentary as students questioned what the next scene would entail. The students also had the opportunity to have an interactive photo booth based around “21 Bridges.”
Boseman later spoke of the impact that Howard alumni and students have within the entertainment industry.
“There’s a legacy that your part of, and especially within the industry you see a lot of us are working on making a difference,” said Boseman.
The panel following the screening was facilitated by the Entertainment Director of Essence Magazine, Cori Murray. In the discussion, Howard students had the opportunity to receive direct insight from the Howard alumni as part of an interactive Q&A portion.
As the panel was wrapping up, members of the panel left students with pieces of advice.
“Take your time, as so much is going on. And you put a lot of pressure on yourself trying to fit it in different places,” said Boseman.
Logan Coles followed up by saying, “I’d say just enjoy the process, find a way to find peace and happiness in the process enjoy the process in doing the work it is doing the work.”
