After pulling off a stunning 3-2 win against Norfolk State on Nov. 12, 2019, the Howard Women’s Volleyball team has now won 4 matches in a row. The team’s victory improves their record to 16-12, 13-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Despite having an outstanding record, the volleyball team has not experienced the same attention or audience size as other Howard athletics.

The women’s volleyball team has played several home games that are easily accessible to the student body at Burr Gymnasium and have even offered incentives to increase crowd attendance. The Bison hosted Delaware State University on November 8, 2019, and offered a $500 reward for the campus organization with the highest percentage of members present. Freshman Darreonna Davis, who attended her first match this season, reflected on the team’s performance.

“After attending org night last week, they are really good, and should be receiving more support at games,” said Davis.

Junior Ana Williams, a member of Howard Women’s Volleyball Team, shares her perspective as a player seeing a lack of support from her fellow Bison.

“The audience turnout is just a few people, it’s not like the audience you have for a basketball game, and we would love more support from the HU Student body.”

Howard takes on South Carolina State on Nov. 15, Burr Gymnasium. The 2017 & 2018 MEAC Volleyball Champion Lady Bison will also be participating in the MEAC Tournament Nov. 22-24 at Burr Gymnasium.
