Lady Bison Sweep Delaware State

Lady Bison look to continue picking up momentum

By: Tayler Adigun, Sports reporter(@dangitstayler)

Howard University’s volleyball team got their first in-conference win of the season on Sunday at home against Delaware State University.

The Lady Bison swept DSU 3-0.  They won the first set 25-12, took the second set 25-11, and finally completed the sweep, winning the third set 25-17. With this victory Howard improved to 3-13 (1-1 MEAC) on the season.

Consistency was Howard’s hallmark, the Lady Bison passed a .350 hitting percentage and held control for the first two sets and slightly improved to .351 in the third set to close out the match against DSU who hit an abysmal .121 in the final set against a ferocious Howard defense.

Senior Khaila Donaldson was named the MEAC’s Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday. Donaldson continued her exceptional play achieving  a match-high of 19 kills and 13 digs on Friday, and 11 kills and 11 digs in Sunday’s win over the DSU Hornets.

Junior Tamia Dockery and freshman Fola Wilson both received an honorable mention after their performance at Maryland Eastern Shore. Dockery had 38 assist and 16 digs and Wilson achieved a match-best of 20 digs. Jessica Young and Kira Porter also each registered a match-high with 12 kills in the win.

Howard entered the weekend 2-12, but  won hard fought victories  against Virginia and Santa Clara. If the Lady Bison continue to perform as they did on Sunday they will be well on their way to earning their third consecutive MEAC Championship.

HU has a non-conference match against George Washington University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Burr Gymnasium, and on Wednesday will be travelling to Baltimore to continue conference play against Morgan State University.
