Volleyball Players Jurnee Tipton and Tamar Wells Earn MEAC Preseason Honors

Jurnee Tipton and Tamar Wells are two of the most dominant players on the volleyball court for Howard University. With over 220 kills each, the pair earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) pre-season honors Aug.25, 2020.

Tipton, a senior outside hitter, has a list of statistics that are nothing less than phenomenal. From garnering 290 kills and 249 digs during the 2019 season, she has made herself a name to remember on the court. While boasting these impressive statistics, she also obtained 31 service aces, 25 total blocks, and 12 assists this past season.

Tipton’s success is no surprise to Howard University, as she is a three-time MEAC Conference champion and was named to the 2019-2020 MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team.

She was also selected to the 2019 MEAC Women’s Volleyball All-Academic Team and earned All-MEAC Second Team honors.

Sophomore player Tamar Wells, the middle blocker, honed her skill set and made herself a tougher competitor during the 2019 season. Wells dominated in her 116 sets and boasted 222 kills, 25 digs, and 280 points scored in total.

With the dedication shown by Wells on the court, she not only became a MEAC champion with the rest of her team, but she also attained the title as MEAC Rookie of the Year in 2019.

Superb performances by both of the Bison is highly anticipated for the upcoming season. With critics projecting Howard University to earn the title of MEAC Conference Champions again in 2021, both Tipton and Wells are sure to be strong competitors, making sure they remain victorious this season.
