Dear Howard University Family and Friends,
The Howard University Hilltop Newspaper has been a staple of Howard culture and education since 1924. The newspaper strives to train students by providing real experiences in journalism, advertising, and many other facets of the industry, while producing excellent reporting and coverage for our audience. Our circulation of more than 14,000 readers continues to grow. Like many other black-owned organizations and businesses, COVID-19 has hurt the Hilltop financially. With Howard’s fall semester conducted primarily online, our paper has also moved online only. We will not publish a print edition this semester, missing out on crucial advertising revenue. As we continue to grapple with this pandemic and the many struggles associated with it, we ask that you graciously consider donating now to our cause in an effort to keep our newspaper afloat.
Our mission to cultivate black talent and provide an independent student voice is more crucial now than ever before. It is imperative that we continue to provide a pipeline of black professionals for the media and news industry in order for our stories to be told. Your timely donations will assist the paper in providing our writers, editors and business team with stipends, and allow a reestablishment of infrastructure. It will also help revamp our online news site and train students in the latest digital publishing technology.
We are urgently in need of your donations now, as the academic school year has just begun. We are asking for donations in the amounts of $9.60, $96, $960, $9,600 (or any denomination in between) in honor of the year 2020 being The Hilltop’s 96th year since our founding on Jan. 22, 1924. Thank you in advance for your generosity; it means so much!
Yours in Bison Spirit,
The Hilltop Leadership Team
