In a surprising move just before midnight on Wednesday, October 19, Howard University officially announced from it’s Twitter account the official music artist headliners for the 2016 Howard Homecoming #ExperienceBlueprint’s Yardfest: Hip-hop artist Common, R&B singer Faith Evans and rapper Fabolous.

In a press release by Howard University, “Yardfest,” one of Howard Homecoming’s biggest, premiere events, will begin at noon on Friday, October 21. Howard University students, alumni and friends will gather for the “International Yardfest” on the campus’ main yard to enjoy live entertainment, vendors, food, games, a children’s pavilion and more.

Yardfest is a Howard University tradition that features a diverse range of artists and entertainment that reflects the Diaspora. Yardfest is a free event that is open to the public, and extra precautions have been added to ensure the safety of attendees.

In a letter to the Howard community, Howard President Wayne A.I. Frederick said that without fail Homecoming at Howard University remains a major anticipation…and that Howard’s Homecoming is no ordinary celebration.

“It is about the pride-filled feeling that happens as soon as you set foot on the campus that recaptures Howard University as a safe haven: A protector of minds and bodies and a supporter of dreams,” said Frederick. “I am humbled and incredibly grateful to celebrate another Bison Homecoming as the 17th president of the institution.”
