Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department have launched an investigation on a body pulled from the McMillan Reservoir yesterday.

Investigators told ABC7 News that a security officer saw the body floating in the reservoir and called for help.

Harbor Patrol was able to remove the unidentified, unconscious Black male submerged in the water after 7:30 p.m., with no signs of life or an obvious cause of death. The body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

“It looks as though his body has been in the water for a few days,” said Captain Ralph Mclean, an officer from the D.C. Police Department.

“He appears to be in his 20s or 30s, but with the body being submerged for so long, it’s hard to tell,” he said.

When the body was removed, it was reported that he was not wearing a full body of clothing, only underwear and socks.

“The body is disoriented a bit, due to being picked by fish and floating against the shoreline.” said Capt. Mclean. “There will need to be a toxicology, because he may have been drinking, going in swimming and gotten disoriented, tired and drowned.

There is no information on if the man found suffered from any trauma, further leads will follow an autopsy and toxicology.

If anyone has information about this case, please call the police at 202-727-9099. In addition, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
